ERP for bakery chains: connecting production to every store

A bakery chain is both a manufacturer and a retailer. Profit depends on producing the right quantity at the right time and controlling end-of-day waste at each store.

The bakery chain challenge

Balancing output and waste

Products last hours or days. Under-produce and you lose sales; over-produce and it becomes waste.

01

Batch production

The bakery produces in batches for many stores, each selling at a different pace.

02

Multi-level BOMs

Dough, fillings, creams and toppings are separate semi-finished items, each with its own yield.

03

Short shelf life

Each batch needs production date, expiry and location tracking.

04

End-of-day waste

Waste must be recorded by store to measure performance and adjust output.

05

Seasons and pre-orders

Mooncakes, birthday cakes and corporate orders reshape the production plan.

06

Ingredient traceability

When quality issues arise, you need to know which ingredient lots went into which batch.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does Acumatica plan bakery production?
Yes. Acumatica MRP aggregates demand from store orders and sales orders, then proposes production orders and ingredient purchases through multi-level BOMs.
How is end-of-day waste recorded?
Stores record waste by item and lot. Waste cost is charged to the right store, so leadership can measure waste rates and adjust output.
Can ingredient lots be traced to finished batches?
Yes. Production orders record the ingredient lots consumed and the finished lots produced, enabling forward and backward tracing.
What if production and stores are separate entities?
Acumatica manages multiple entities in one system. Transfers from the bakery to stores owned by another company create intercompany transactions automatically.
